NexAsia Moves: KKR names former TSE CEO as Japan chairman; Vanguard snags new MD from UBS

    KKR Japan gets a new chairman. Atsushi Saito, who recently stepped down as Group President and CEO of the Japan Exchange Group, has been named non-executive chairman of KKR Japan. He begins his new role on the first of August. As for Saito’s appointment, KKR’s Henry Kravis had this to say: “We are extremely fortunate to have Mr. Atsushi Saito join us. He brings immense expertise gained through his distinguished career, where he has worked and advocated to bring value to companies and uphold the highest corporate governance standards.” Prior to his heading of the JPX, Saito was the first President and CEO of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Group and also served as CEO for Sumitomo Life Investment.     Vanguard names new managing director. Sammy Yip, a 12-year asset management veteran, has been hired by asset management giant Vanguard as its new managing director for client portfolio management in Hong Kong. According to his LinkedIn profile, Yip was an executive director for UBS Global Asset Management prior to joining Vanguard, and also spent 11 years at State Street Global Advisors were his latest role was head of its Asia-Pacific ETF business.

    Northern Trust appoints new head of Singapore and Southeast Asia. Rohan Singh, Northern Trust’s Australia and New Zealand country head, has been appointed by the firm as its new head for Singapore and Southeast Asia. Madeleine Senior, the asset manager’s head of business development for asset servicing business in EMEA, will be taking on his former role. Singh apparently has loads of experience with the region, having served as the firm’s Singapore-based head of asset servicing sales for Asia-Pacific prior to his ascendancy in Melbourne.
