Ever wondered where you should begin your hedge fund career? Well, if compensation’s the only thing you’re after, here’s something just for you.

Efinancialcareers recently compared the salaries American hedgies were making versus their London counterparts and surprisingly, the spread between the two is a little wider than what one would have thought.

Citing data from Glocap and Emolument, they say that entry-level hedge fund jobs in London now pay just $68,000 plus an average bonus of $18,700 – less than what Goldman gives out as their signing bonus – while over in the U.S., hedge funds reward their entry-level monkeys with a $90,000 to $125,000 base salary plus an annual bonus ranging from $90,000 to $175,000.

Hong Kong-based hedge funds meanwhile supposedly pay around $90,000 according to PayScale. Though whether or not this is entry-level, post-MBA, or even all-in comp is not known.

So, given the three’s high cost of living, from a salary standpoint alone it seems like the U.S. is still the way to go – even if you end up working in high-tax New York.
