NexAsia Week Ahead: Greece, Fed set to dominate this week

    Hello everyone. The Greferendum will be kicking off the week today as Greeks hit the polls at 7 a.m. EEST (2 a.m. EST). All eyes will shift to the Fed however as their highly-anticipated FOMC minutes get published Thursday morning while a slew of speeches from its governors and presidents are set to be held in the following days. Fed chair Janet Yellen’s speech, naturally, will be capping off this week in the markets.

    Here’s what else you need to know:

    Sunday:

    • 3:00pm – Greek referendum begins. Bloomberg surveys still place polls at 43% no, 42.5% yes.

    Monday:

    • 10:00 pm – U.S. June ISM Non-manufacturing PMI. Forecasts predict it to rise to 56.5.

    Tuesday:

    • 12:30 pm – Reserve Bank of Australia interest rate decision. Forecasts currently see the RBA keeping rates steady at 2%.
    • 4:30 pm – U.K. May Industrial and Manufacturing data. Analysts predict a slowdown in industrial production both YoY and MoM while YoY manufacturing is slated to rise to 1.1%.
    • 8:30 pm – U.S. May Balance of Trade. Economist forecasts show the deficit increasing slightly to $41 billion.
    •  8:30 pm – Canada May Balance of Trade. On the brink of recession, analysts expect Canada’s trade deficit to grow to CAD3.3 billion.

    Thursday:

    • 2:00 am – Fed FOMC minutes.
    • 7:50 am – Japan May Machinery Orders. Analysts expect orders to rise 2% this month.
    • 9:30 am – Australia Unemployment Change. Forecasts currently show an increase of 14,500 last month, compared to the 42,000 added in May.
    • 9:30 am – Australia June Unemployment rate. A 0.1% increase is currently expected for June.
    • 9:30 am – China June Inflation rate. Analysts forecast YoY inflation in China to remain unchanged at 1.2%.
    • 9:30 am – China June PPI. YoY PPI in China is expected to rise -4.4%.
    • 7:00 pm – Bank of England Interest Rate and QE decision. Both are expected to remain steady.
    • 9:00 pm – Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard speech.
    • 11:30 pm – Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Esther George speech.

    Friday:

    • 1:00 pm – Japan June Consumer Confidence. Analysts expect this to bump up to 41.6.
    • 8:30 pm – Canada Unemployment Rate and Change. Economists forecast an additional 27,000 jobs while unemployment remains steady at 6.8%.
    • 10:30 pm – Federal Reserve Bank of Boston President Eric Rosengren speech
    • 11:00 pm – Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen speech
