The world’s largest blockchain payments provider, BitPay, announced that it has partnered with Ripple’s Xpring initiative to support payments with XRP.
According to a press release, the partnership will allow businesses to accept XRP payments via BitPay by the end of the year.
“BitPay customers are leveraging the promise of blockchain payment technology and with XRP can offer a payment option that is fast, cost-effective and scalable,” said Sean Rolland, Director of Product at BitPay. “The addition of XRP as the next blockchain asset supported by BitPay expands blockchain choices across the payments space.”
BitPay currently supports Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Ethereum (ETH) and provides stablecoin settlement for coins such as Gemini Dollar (GUSD). It claims to have processed over $1 billion annually from the likes of Microsoft, adding that it could switch on XRP support without any additional integration.
The company also said that it will integrate it’s BitPay Wallet with Xpring’s new developer platform.
“We’re excited to partner with BitPay to enable XRP for its thousands of merchants for everyday purchases and bills. This is key in advancing the proliferation and adoption of XRP as a medium of exchange to help solve real-world problems,” said Ethan Beard, SVP of Xpring.
