Chinese self-driving startup AutoX has reportedly launched a massive taxi operations center in Shanghai.
According to Caixin, the Alibaba-backed company has set up an 80,000 square foot facility which doubles as a giant data hub and a massive self-driving vehicle tool shed. The data center part stores all the information gathered from the vehicles’ daily operations while the cloud computing part runs “round-the-clock” test simulations.
The operation center is part of an agreement AutoX signed with Shanghai authorities last year, which allows the company to trial a fleet of 100 autonomous taxis this year in a pilot area containing residential zones, business districts and shopping centers.
What level of autonomy the taxis will have is a little unclear, we do know though that AutoX will be unveiling an app for users to hail them.
